Recently, Car and Driver took the Ford F-150 Raptor for a high-speed adventure through the rigorous Anza-Borrego Desert in Southern California. Naturally, the truck conquered every challenge put in its way.

Featuring a new aluminum block and upgraded internals, the all-new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine gets paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission to produce up to 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque – notable improvements over the old Raptor’s 6.2-liter V-8. And while the suspension is specifically designed to handle off-roading punishment, it offers a stellar driving experience on pavement also.

Everyone knows the real thrill in owning a Raptor is taking it off-road at high speed. To this end, the reviewer recommends Baja driving mode, declaring, “the stability-control calibration is superb, allowing great leeway and stepping in only under extreme circumstances with smooth, subtle interventions. This mode also relaxes the ABS, allowing some lockup to pile sand in front of the tires, long a favored means of stopping in softer terrain.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little bit about the Raptor’s off-road capabilities. Feel free to stop by our showroom at 2727 North 20th Avenue in Wausau to take a look at our Ford inventory.
